ONIX is the format distributors, wholesalers and library suppliers take book details in. The ONIX page, under ISBNs in the menu, makes one ONIX for Books 3.0 file of your books on the Publisher plan. The studio never sends it anywhere: you upload it to your distributor's portal or FTP yourself.
- One record for each format. Every ebook, paperback, hardcover and large-print book with an ISBN of its own gets a record, named by that ISBN. Sample books stay out, and so do formats on KDP's free ISBN, which is only for selling through KDP.
- Made from what you've filled in. The title, subtitle and series, the author and other contributors, the description, keywords, categories and reading ages, and the publication date come from each edition's Details tab; the prices from its Pricing tab; the page count, thickness, size and accessibility from the newest files you built.
- Thema codes. European distributors file books by Thema, EDItEUR's subject scheme. Pick the codes on each edition's Details tab: search by word or code, and put the main subject first. Your BISAC categories go in as they're written, and your keywords too.
- Where it's for sale. Each edition is for sale worldwide unless you list the countries on its Details tab.
- Prices. Each Amazon list price goes in with its own currency and country. US and Canadian prices, and every printed book's, are before tax, as KDP sets them; ebook prices elsewhere include tax. Where a fixed book price law covers the book, its price is marked as fixed. Ebook prices on Amazon.com.br and Amazon.com.mx stay out, because KDP's pages don't say whether they include tax.
- The covers. The file comes in a ZIP with each format's front cover named by its ISBN (such as 9781234567897.jpg), the way distributors' cover feeds take them. The front comes from the edition's ebook cover, so save that in the cover editor.
- Your settings. The publisher's name, who recipients can write to, where you publish, the product safety contact the EU asks of printed books, and whether a retailer adds DRM or a watermark to your ebooks.
- What stops a record. No ISBN of its own, or one that isn't valid; no title, author, language, publication date or description; no price. The page says what each format lacks, with a link to where you fix it.
- Checked before you get it. Every file is checked against EDItEUR's own ONIX schema before it's made. Each record is complete every time, so send the whole file again after changes: recipients replace the records they have.
- Who can make it. You and co-authors who work on every book, because the file carries prices and contacts.
