These terms are an agreement between you and PenStranding ("we"), which runs PenStranding. By creating an account you agree to them. If you use PenStranding for a business or a publisher, you agree to them for it too.
What PenStranding does
PenStranding prepares the files and the information you need to publish your book: ebooks, print interiors and covers, store listings, ISBN plans and, if you choose, translations and other work done with AI. We never upload, publish or register anything for you. You upload your files to the stores and register your ISBNs yourself, under your own accounts and their terms.
Your account
You need an account to use PenStranding. Keep your password safe and tell us at support@penstranding.com if someone else gets into your account. You can export everything in your account, or delete it, at any time in Settings.
Your books
Your manuscripts, covers and everything you make in PenStranding stay yours. You give us only the permission we need to store them, process them and show them to you and to the people you invite, so that we can run the service. When you start a book you confirm that you hold the rights to publish it, and to translate it if you translate it.
You are responsible for what you publish: check every file and every translation before you upload it to a store.
Work done with AI
Some features use AI: translations, proofreading, store descriptions and keywords. AI makes mistakes, so read its work before you use it. The text it writes for your book is yours. We send your text to our AI provider only to do the work you ask for, under terms that don't let the provider train its models on it. If you use your own AI key, your provider's terms apply to that work instead.
Each AI job shows its price in Studio credit before it starts, and never costs more than that. If a job doesn't finish, the credit for the part it didn't do comes back.
The AI disclosure rules
Stores ask whether AI made any part of a book: KDP, for one, asks about the text, the images and the translation of every edition. When you start a book you agree to these rules for it:
- Answer the stores truthfully. Say where AI made text, images or a translation in each edition, in every store that asks, and keep your answers up to date when the edition changes.
- Start from the record we keep. PenStranding records which of its AI features worked on each edition, and fills in the answers that work implies: a translation made in PenStranding is a translation made by AI, for example. Check those answers, and change them where your own use of AI was different, such as text you wrote with another tool.
- Don't hide it. Don't present work made by AI as made entirely by people where a store or the law asks you to say otherwise, and don't remove or change a disclosure a store requires.
We keep the history of your answers with each edition, so you can show what you declared and when. You remain responsible for what you tell each store.
Plans, credit and payments
Our reseller and merchant of record is Paddle.com, which sells you PenStranding and handles payments, invoices and sales tax. Paddle's Buyer Terms apply to every purchase, together with our Refund Policy.
- Plans renew automatically until you cancel. When you cancel, the plan carries on until the end of the period you've paid for.
- Book Passes give one book everything in the Author plan.
- Studio credit pays for AI jobs. Credit you buy doesn't expire. Credit that comes with a plan lasts until the end of the plan year it's given in, or until the plan ends.
Prices are on our pricing page. If a price changes, we tell you before your next renewal, and you can cancel before it applies.
Fair use
Don't use PenStranding to break the law or anyone's rights, to publish books you don't have the rights to, to get around limits or payments, or to disrupt the service or other people's work. We may suspend an account that does, and we'll tell you why.
The service
PenStranding is in its early days, and we work to keep it running and your files safe, with nightly backups. We can't promise it will always be available or free of mistakes. We may change features; if a change takes away something you've paid for, we'll tell you first and refund the unused part.
Liability
We aren't liable for indirect losses, such as lost sales or profits, or for losses caused by stores, payment providers or AI providers. Our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law doesn't allow to be limited, or your rights as a consumer.
Ending the agreement
You can delete your account at any time in Settings. We may end the agreement with 30 days' notice, or at once if you seriously break these terms. When it ends, you can still export your data for 30 days, unless the law stops us.
Changes to these terms
We'll tell you by email at least 30 days before a change that affects you. If you don't agree, you can delete your account before it applies.
Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of Poland. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protections of the law where you live.
