A print cover is one image that wraps the book: back cover, spine and front, with bleed around the edges. The cover editor works out the spine from the interior's page count and paper, and shows KDP's trim, safe areas and barcode box over your artwork while you set the text.
- Build the interior first: the spine width comes from its page count. Until then the editor sizes the spine for a guessed page count, and says so.
- The artwork can be the whole wrap, or the front cover alone: then it fills the front panel, with a plain colour on the spine and back, matched to the artwork's edge or one you choose.
- An edition with only an ebook shows its front, to save as the ebook cover.
- Save this cover to the studio checks the size against KDP's numbers and keeps the PDF with the edition, ready to download.
Before you order a proof copy, check the cover with the print proof: the cover on a true-size 3D book, a loupe at print resolution, and its colours as printed.
What you need: the Author plan. On the Free plan, exports carry a "preview" watermark.
