How it works
Not every store sells every language. KDP publishes a list of the languages it accepts, which differs for ebooks and print books, and national stores serve their own markets.
The checker lists, for ebooks and print books, whether KDP takes the language, which other stores and distributors do, and the way in for each: your own account, or a distributor that delivers to it.
A worked example
For a book in Polish: KDP prints Polish paperbacks and hardcovers but doesn't sell Polish ebooks. Empik Selfpublishing and Legimi sell them in Poland, as do Kobo, Apple Books and Google Play, and Virtualo is reached through Empik.
Questions authors ask
- What if KDP doesn't take my language?
- Sell the ebook through the other stores, directly or through a distributor such as Draft2Digital or PublishDrive, and check whether KDP prints your language even when it doesn't sell the ebook.
- Should I publish a translation instead?
- A translation reaches readers in another language and opens stores your own language can't use. Many authors publish both.
