Each paperback and hardcover has a trim size (the finished page) and a paper. The defaults suit most novels: 6 × 9 in on cream paper.
- Paper changes the spine width: cream is a little thicker than white.
- Paperbacks come in every size KDP prints, from 5 × 8 to 8.5 × 11 in and A4, squares (8.25 and 8.5 in) and 8.25 × 6 in on its side for picture books. The largest hold fewer pages: 590 at 8.5 × 11 and 8.5 × 8.5 in on white paper, 550 on cream.
- Hardcovers come in 5.5 × 8.5, 6 × 9, 6.14 × 9.21, 7 × 10 and 8.25 × 11 in.
- Type and margins grow and shrink with the page, so a larger trim holds more words a page.
