Fixed book prices in Norway: what self-publishers need to know

Norway's fixed book price law covers printed books and ebooks in Bokmål, Nynorsk, the Sámi languages, Kven, Romani and Romanes. Here is what it asks of you as the publisher, and what KDP asks.

The facts

The rule
For books with an ISBN in Bokmål, Nynorsk, Sámi, Kven, Romani or Romanes that a Norwegian publisher brings out for sale through Norwegian booksellers: you set a fixed price for each format (print, ebook, audiobook), and it holds for twelve months from that format's first release. Meanwhile sellers may give libraries up to 20% off, and up to 20% on 50 to 200 copies; nobody may give the book away (the first book of a series aside) or bundle it, and ebooks and audiobooks sell only by the copy, not in subscriptions such as Kindle Unlimited. Sales to readers abroad, school books and second-hand books are left out.

What KDP asks
Where a fixed book price law applies, KDP asks you to set the same list price at every retailer, and to tell the authorities where the law requires it.
