Fixed book prices in Belgium: what self-publishers need to know

Belgium's fixed book price law covers printed books and ebooks in Dutch and French. Here is what it asks of you as the publisher, and what KDP asks.

The facts

The rule
In Flanders the publisher sets the price of a book in Dutch, print or ebook, and for six months after it comes out sellers give at most 10% off it; scientific, educational and second-hand books are left out. In Wallonia and Brussels, for books in French, print and ebook, sellers online included give at most 5% off your price for two years (one year for comics); schools, public libraries and non-profit associations may get 15% to 25%.

What KDP asks
Where a fixed book price law applies, KDP asks you to set the same list price at every retailer, and to tell the authorities where the law requires it.
