Fixed book prices in Germany: what self-publishers need to know
Germany's fixed book price law covers printed books and ebooks in German. Here is what it asks of you as the publisher, and what KDP asks.
The facts
- The rule
- You set one retail price, VAT included, and every seller to readers in Germany must charge it: no discounts to readers. You may end the fixed price after 18 months. It covers ebooks bought outright, and books in other languages only when they're mainly for the German market.

- What KDP asks
- Where a fixed book price law applies, KDP asks you to set the same list price at every retailer, and to tell the authorities where the law requires it.
